LIA GIANNAKIS – AUTHOR

Books, poems, plays, newspaper or magazine articles—anything we read–provide a means to open our minds, teach us something, change our hearts, and expand our emotions. We can encounter scientific facts or religious truth; imagined dimensions that seem equally true; subjects that make us laugh or cry; and themes that stay with us for a long time.
From a very early age, I understood and loved the power of the written word. I was even more excited when I discovered that the Creator of All Things had given me the ability to write (and speak) creatively, persuasively, poetically, and analytically. Over many years, I have written and had published:
Poetry; short stories; news journalism; editorials; arts criticism; essays; devotional materials; and even recipes.
Foreign Friends is my first novel, published in 2023. If you’re looking for a quirky, funny story about a young woman’s struggle for personal growth along with her crazy co-workers and friends, resulting in an unexpected wild ride, give it a try!
For Christian Fiction, Romance, and Adventure, you’ll want to read my second novel, “Climbing the Great Pyramid” — now available from https://store.bookbaby.com
My Story
I am a first-generation Greek American and proud of my heritage. My father emigrated to New York City from a beautiful, peaceful village on the Ionian coast of the Peloponnesian part of Greece.

After I became an adult, I, too, moved to New York City. Much to my surprise, I discovered that the Manhattan building where I lived was around the corner from the one in which my Dad had resided when he was about my same age. Who says coincidences don’t happen?

As a young person, I was drawn to the academic and intellectual world. I earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Philosophy, and worked on a Doctorate in Philosophy. Ultimately, I completed both a Master’s of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry degree.
I was an Instructor in Philosophy at two major Catholic universities and taught grades K through 12 as a substitute teacher. Due to a change in family circumstances, I gave up academia to work in publishing in New York City as a book editor. Following a life-transforming conversion in which I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I was called to be a pastor and have served in His Church for 34 years.
My travels have included visiting all fifty U.S. States, and trekking around the globe for a year with only a 50-pound backpack (and a friend). I’ve lived in Europe and the U.S., and went to central America as a journalist to cover a revolution there.
For almost half my life I’ve been happily married to the best man in the world, and together we parent three cats.

My goals in life are to help people learn and laugh. Truth and laughter (the best medicine) are the greatest defenses against the current insanity we are living through.
All my life I’ve been a writer. So, I hope you will enjoy reading my books.
